The Ongoing Human Exploration of Mars

After reading the com-mentary "Space Explo-ration: A Reality Check" [March 6, page 19], I feel that some informed observations should be introduced to the discussion. Mr. Robertson correctly points out that if you can get them there (and back I presume), that humans would be orders of magnitude more effective at Mars than our current robotic capability. However, as best as we can figure, it also costs a few orders of magnitude more dollars to do so, money which we do not have at our beck and call today.
