Northrop Aids Interoperability Test of UAVs, Manned Aircraft

Northrop Grumman Corp. of Los Angeles recently contributed modeling, simulation and analysis to a joint military interoperability demonstration for reconnaissance aircraft, according to an Oct. 29 Northrop Grumman press release. The Empire Challenge 2008 was a four-week demonstration sponsored by the U.S. National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and U.S. Joint Forces Command. As part of the event, manned reconnaissance aircraft tested the ability to task and receive data in flight from unmanned aerial vehicles. Several Northrop Grumman aircraft flew in the event, including the E-2C Hawkeye, E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System and RQ-9 Global Hawk, the release said. These manned and unmanned aircraft demonstrated interoperability with the United Kingdom's Airborne Stand-Off Radar program. Northrop Grumman also provided communications technology that enhanced the quality of full-motion video used in the exercise, the release said.
