USA and ATK Resolve Ares 1 Launch Vehicle Work Dispute

Minneapolis-based Alliant Techsystems (ATK) announced Oct. 16 it had resolved a contract dispute with United Space Alliance (USA) about the work the Houston-based space shuttle operator will perform in support of the Ares 1 crew launch vehicle NASA has under development. The two sides signed a memorandum of agreement three days earlier outlining some $250 million worth of work USA will perform through 2013 or 2014 as a subcontractor on ATK's Ares 1 main stage development efforts. ATK and USA officials said during an Oct. 16 teleconference with reporters that finalizing a formal contract would take an additional 30 to 60 days.
