When United Kingdom-based Ar-qiva launched its U.S. operations in April 2007, it turned to Simon Thrush, a veteran of Arqiva satellite sales and management since the company's inception in September 1993. The company's 2007 purchase of British Telecom included teleports in Washington and Los Angeles, creating new opportunities to deliver end-to-end broadcasting services in the United States and Europe. Thrush, a senior vice president at Arqiva and the chief of U.S. operations, promotes the company with the same high level of enthusiasm he employs as he pursues his passion for racing mountain bikes. After riding his bicycle 52.8 kilometers to his downtown Washington office in the morning or flying to Arqiva's Los Angeles office with his 13.5-kilogram bicycle in tow, he spends his days plotting how he will double Arqiva's U.S. business within five years.
