Mobile Ground Stations Aging but Still Operating

The U.S. Air Force continues to operate five of the six Eagle Vision mobile satellite Earth observation stations it has purchased from French industry since 1995 but is concerned it is becoming difficult, and expensive, to adapt the aging equipment to a broader number of satellites, according to an Eagle Vision program manager.rnAir Force Col. Claudette Martin said the five Eagle Vision units now in operation are stationed in Germany, Hawaii, California, South Carolina and Alabama -with the Alabama unit serving as backup for South Carolina, especially during hurricane season.
