S. Korea's Aegis Operational For Ship-based Defense

The South Korean navy in November became the sixth nation to declare the Lockheed Martin Corp.-built Aegis Weapon System operational for ship-based defense, a Dec. 22 Lockheed Martin press release said. The Aegis Weapon System aboard two South Korean destroyers, Sejong the Great and Yulgok Yi 1 were certified Nov. 7 and Nov. 15, respectively after completing their combat system test programs ahead of schedule, the release said. One more South Korean destroyer is scheduled to receive the system.
