IT'S ONE OF THE WORLD'S iconic observatories. Embedded in the hills of Puerto Rico, the Arecibo Observatory and its 305-meter main dish was the world's largest radio telescope for decades, until the 2015 completion of a similar, but scaled-up, observatory in China. It's appeared in movies as varied as "Contact" and the James Bond thriller GoldenEye.
