United Launch Alliance received two contracts from the U.S. Air Force last week, one worth $1.18 billion for the final five launches of the Delta 4 Heavy rocket, and another worth $98.5 million for three Atlas 5 launches. The larger of the two contracts covers launch operations costs for five classifed NRO missions. The Air Force acquired the Delta 4 Heavy rockets for those missions under $2.2 billion worth of production contracts awarded to ULA in 2017 and 2018. The $98.5 million contract covers the completion and launch of three previously procured Atlas 5 launches of the AEHF-6, AFSPC-7 and NROL-101 missions. Those launches were purchased under the old EELV Phase 1 block buy contract that expired last month, requiring the new contract to cover the cost of the launches that slipped beyond the original period of performance.
