Britain, the Ethiopian crisis and the Balkan Entente, 1935-1936

After the outbreak of the Ethiopian crisis Britain concluded that the states of the Balkan Entente could play an important role to the British strategy in the Mediterranean. However, by November 1935, the British government gradually entered into limited military dialogue, on a bilateral basis, only with those states with access to the Mediterranean, namely Turkey, Greece and Yugoslavia. Nevertheless, while Yugoslavia was too exposed to play an active part in British strategy, Britain focused mainly on Greece and Turkey, with the latter being the most important for the British.
