Sandwiched between an introduction by a distinguished former Foreign Secretary and a final chapter by a senior serving diplomat, the book features a compilation of essays by some of India's very eminent scientists and technocrats, many of whom have also headed leading national institutions in their respective areas. Captured in the book are fascinating accounts of how China, which began its journey towards liberalization and rapid economic growth by venturing into low cost and labour-intensive manufacturing, has steadily graduated into a huge Science and Technology (S&T) powerhouse with a fast expanding high technology industry. Several chapters also draw useful comparisons with the Indian S&T development story and highlight possible lessons that can be learnt.
