HAMILTON WINS GOLD AT SWANA AWARDS

The roster of winners in The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) 2007 Excellence Awards Included the City of Hamilton, Ontario, which won three awards, including two gold awards (for marketing its green cart program and for its new compost facility) and also the innovation award. Also winning gold for its public education efforts is the Region of Durham. The awards program for demonstrated excellence in the field of solid waste management was created to recognize outstanding facilities, operations and programs committed to the "environmentally and economically sound management of solid waste," while at the same time, encouraging innovation. Each of SWANA's eight technical divisions has at least one award category through which they identify top-notch facilities, operations and programs.
