While migration is not a new phenomenon, the sustained increase in the remittance flows associated with it has contributed to raising awareness of its dimension. Caribbean countries show a very distinctive pattern of migration with high skilled migration rates unmatched by low-skilled migration. This paper proposes an analysis of the characteristics of Caribbean skilled migration, in the context of global international trends. Moreover, it examines the main factors determining skilled and unskilled migration, the potential implications for origin countries and the relevant policy options.
