Essays on the Theory of Plantation Economy: A Historical and Institutional Approach to Caribbean Economic Development

This collection of essays by Lloyd Best and Kari Polanyi Levitt, the two doyens of the plantation economy school, is long overdue since the first articulation of these ideas in the late 1960s. Arguably, the tradition of critical thought associated with the plantation economy school suffered from the lack of a definitive text upon which the adherents could pin their arguments, especially in the era of neoliberalism and structural adjustment policies. As such, this publication solves that problem and needs to be viewed as a welcome addition to the literature on Caribbean development and the wider field of post-colonial thought.
