Asoaring event that took place at the Watertown, SD mu- nicipal airport drew lots of attention from the community and spread the good news of soaring and aviation to educators. The idea for the event was hatched by Jim Hanson, organizer of a soaring regatta in Albert Lea MN in the fall of 2014. I attended the regatta and gave rides in the school's Schweizer SGM 2-37. Jim suggested that the school was in a good position to promote aviation in general and, more specifically, soaring, by hosting a STEM event for grades 7-12 teachers that featured glider rides. Greg was quick to agree and they both quipped that it was a good excuse to plan a soaring event. As it turns out - it did not disappoint.
