Nova Scotia exempted from federal coal phase-out, will implement cap and trade

Nova Scotia will receive an exemption from Canada’s government that willrnallow it to operate its coal-fired power plants after 2030, when a federal mandaternrequires conventional coal plants in all other provinces to be shuttered.rnThe province has already reached the federal government’s 2030 goalrnof reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30% from 2005 levels, PremierrnStephen McNeil said in a Nov. 21 statement announcing the agreement forrnthe federal exemption.
