The U.S. Economic Development Administration is granting $790,000 to arn$1.6 million project earmarked for the production of carbon-fiber compositernmaterial from coal-derived pitch, the University of Utah announced Oct. 26.rnThe project is one of a new slate of EDA’s Partnerships for Opportunityrnand Workforce and Economic Revitalization grant, aimed at helping revitalizerncommunities that have been battered by the protracted slump in the coalrnsector, which have resulted in a production decline.
