Free fallin': Power, gas prices continue fall in H2'15; coal prices follow

Power and spot gas prices continued to trend downward year over year throughout the second half of 2015, compared to the prices experienced in the second half of 2014. According to NOAA,the six-month period from July to December 2015 ranked as the warmest six-month period for the contiguous U.S. on record since data collection began in 1895. The month of December 2015 was a driving force behind that mark, as it was the warmest December on record with an average temperature of 39 degrees Fahrenheit. The warmer weather across the country allowed for better management of constrained pipelines in the fall and early winter months, around major population centers, minimizing spikes in natural gas and power prices.
