Synthesis and Characterization of Some Schiff Bases Metal Complexes and Their Investigation as Antibacterial and Antifungal Agents

New series of Fe(Ⅲ), Co(Ⅱ), Cu(Ⅱ) and Ni(Ⅱ) of the 6,6'-((1E,1'E)-(propane-1,2-diylbis(azanylylidene))bis(methanylylidene))bis(7-hydroxy-5-methoxy-2-methyl-4H-chromen-4-one), H_2L, have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV-vis, ~1H-NMR, mass and ESR spectra, magnetic susceptibility and molar conductivity measurements. The spectral data and magnetic measurements of the complexes indicate that, the geometries are either square planar or octahedral. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of the compounds showed that, some of metal complexes exhibited a greater inhibitory effect than standard drug as tetracycline (bacteria), Amphotericin B (fungi), the parent ligand and the corresponding metal ion.
