At home and in my university town this summer, I was immediately struck by the way that media responses to the shootings of Sikhs in Oak Creek, Wisconsin underscored imperial dynamics of minoritization in the USA. Interviewed by journalists outside the gurudwara on August 6th, Sikh congregants seemed unable to define, guide, or control the anthropological discourse on Sikhs and Sikhi that began to emerge in the national public sphere.
