Government Chief Scientific Advisers are a good thing. Governments need them. The assumption behind them is that they do just what it says on the tin: they advise the government on matters of science—and such advice is usually very greatly needed.It is therefore all the more disappointing to find the important and unpleasant disagreement between the current Chief Scientific Adviser, Sir David King, and the Independent Scientific Group on Cattle TB.
