At the October meeting, Capt. Francis A. "Skip" Hiser Ⅲ, USN (Ret.), assistant deputy chief of staff, Global Force Management and Joint Operations, U.S. Fleet Forces Command (USFF), presented some of the key issues currently being discussed by USFF. Capt. Hiser noted that the Joint Deployment Center and the Maritime Operations Center soon will be sharing space at the Norfolk Naval Base in Norfolk, Virginia. This represents a significant step in the Maritime Headquarters/Maritime Operations Center program, Capt. Hiser said. He also shared that the USFF is working to establish the Tailored Maritime Operations Center, which would execute missions, functions, tasks and joint requirements as part of Maritime Homeland Defense. The chapter awarded several Information Professional (IP) awards to chapter members-Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Leticia Collins, USN, information systems technician, surface and air warfare, Military IP of the Month; Senior Chief Petty Officer Darryl Smith, USN, senior chief information systems technician, surface warfare, Military IP of the Month for September; and Rich Brodowicz, Civilian IP of the Month for September. Nine local teachers also received Science Teaching Tools awards.
