Cyber Range To Advance Innovation

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) awarded the first contracts under its new National Cyber Range program. The program intends to develop ways to increase cybersecurity by orders of magnitude above current systems. Seven companies will receive various amounts of funding ranging from just more than $344,000 to greater than $8.6 million. These cybersecurity improvements could be available during the next five to 10 years, DARPA officials predict.rnThe National Cyber Range will provide real-world simulation environments where organizations can develop, test and field new concepts that aim at protecting systems against cyberthreats. The program is part of the interagency Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative announced last year. The program seeks to accelerate government research and development in high-risk, high-return areas and encourage closer collaboration with the commercial sector to boost technical cyber transformation.
