Securing the Homeland

For centuries, peace-loving nations formed militaries around the concept of protecting their territory and their people. Nations sought secure borders and freedom from intrusion or intimidation by a hostile foreign power. Now, however, that concept has assumed the formal name of Homeland Security. And, it often is differentiated from its military counterpart by its focus on domestic harm rather than global security.
