GET Engineering Corporation, San Diego, recently launched the Virtual Navy Tactical Data System (V-NTDS), which company officials describe as a revolutionary new communications method for use in place of the Navy's current, aging NTDS. The V-NTDS is marketed as the first and only method designed to reduce development and deployment costs by eliminating the need for expensive and dedicated NTDS adapters and bulky, costly communication cables. The primary advantages of using V-NTDS include little to no modification of an existing NTDS application and no need for specialized converters. In addition, it offers the capability for continued use of certified applications with little or no modification.
