Women in AFCEA Fall Event

Did you know that there is a women's group in AFCEA? Women in AFCEA held its first fall event, titled "Risk to Results," in October at AFCEA International Headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia. More than 70 men and women listened to opening remarks by Linda Gooden, chair of AFCEA Internationals board of directors, Lt. Gen. Robert M. Shea, USMC (Ret.), president and CEO of AFCEA International, and Brig. Gen. John Meincke, USAF (Ret.), vice chair of the AFCEA International board of directors. The keynote speaker, Shelley Smith, founder and president of Premier Rapport, captivated the audience with an interactive and enlightening exchange that demonstrated how achieving success requires making genuine connections. She outlined what she called the "wave of connectivity," which depends on the importance of knowing yourself, identifying your most productive efforts and focusing on delegation and accountability. "What is your 60-second elevator speech?" Smith asked. In pairs, the attendees shared their 60-second overview and learned key techniques from Smith to improve their personal and professional brands.
