The U.S. Army's action to integrate asynchronous transfer mode technology into tactical communications provides a cornerstone for a wireless, highly mobile and secure war fighter information network. This commercially available technology will accommodate more users within limited tactical bandwidth and will permit greater bandwidth applications, such as video teleconferencing, imagery, collaborative planning and Internet access.
