Million Dollar Cooperative Effort Links Local Colorado Researchers

A new, high-speed fiber-optic net-work capable of sending shelves of reference books per second now links the city of Boulder, Colorado, with several research agencies. The collaborative information technology effort, known as the Boulder research and administrative network (BRAN), is a $1.5 million project that instantaneously connects the city of Boulder, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the University of Colorado-Boulder and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). The network allows real-time collaboration on research projects and saves each entity $4,000 to $5,000 a month.
