You meet the finest people on the beach

I often think how glad I am that I discovered ASBPA early in my coastal career. I've made many friends through ASBPA and learned so much about shores and beaches through the papers in Shore & Beach, conference presentations, and the many efforts by chapter activities. I was reminded of the great diversity of issues and expertise within ASBPA as I was going through my print copy (yes, I do like reading from paper when the opportunity arises) of the Dedicated Issue of "Observations and lessons learned from recent storm events," that was excellently curated and edited by guest editors Jon Miller, Bret Webb, and Irene Watts, and as I was going through the papers for the current issue. These two issues, like many others, highlight the collection and dissemination of important coastal information and also the major contributions from the people who run to the coast following storms to collect perishable data, who describe successes and (dare I say) failures, track data about economic value of coastal tourism and other coastal activities or dredging needed to maintain recreational and commercial ports, who care about the health and safety of beach users, and who want to encourage better coastal management practices.
