Reply to comments by R. W. Parkinson and D.E. Ogurcak on Houston (2020)

I thank R. W. Parkinson and D.E. Ogurcak for submitting their comments on my Shore & Beach paper (Houston 2020) to the same journal to give me the opportunity to respond. In 2018, they criticized a paper of mine that was published in the Journal of Coastal Research (Houston 2017), but chose a different journal to publish their criticism (Parkinson and Ogurcak 2018), and neither they nor the journal informed me to give me the opportunity to respond. They are proponents of managed withdrawal from the shoreline. Their 2018 paper is entitled, "Beach nourishment is not a sustainable strategy to mitigate climate change." That paper ends by saying: "Climate change will ultimately have to be addressed by a robust, adaptive management strategy that incorporates managed withdrawal from the shoreline."
