South New Jersey

The wide, fine-sand beach at North Wildwood, New Jersey, has never been artificially nourished. Sediment transport is bidirectional along this portion of the Jersey shore, and the jetties at Cape May Inlet to the south and the groin at Herefore Inlet to the north may help stabilize the beach. The intimidating ride in the background is the Nor'Easter, a suspended looping coaster at Surfside Pier. Photograph 20 August 2008.
