Estonia declared independence in August 1991 and the Baltic state has become one of the most successful of those to cast off the reins of socialism. Its emergence into democracy has been helped by strong shipping links, particularly with near neighbour Finland, and the pride of the Estonian fleet is Fantaasia, one of a string of vessels employed in booming traffic largely attracted from Helsinki to its medieval capital Tallinn.
