RMS Queen Mary: From Trans-Atlantic Liner to Californian Hotel

The RMS Queen Mary has been retired for 32 years -longer, in fact, than she was in service - yet she remains one of the best remembered and most loved of all the great ocean liners. Built during the Great Depression of the 'thirties she quickly became the symbol of a country struggling against economic recession and a rallying point for national honour and prestige. The affection she generated then, and subsequently, was almost as strong in people who never set a foot on her decks as in the millions of passengers she carried during her 31 years service.
