Cruising since 1966

The year 1966 was an important one in cruise ship history. In May, the National Union of Seamen called a strike which crippled Britain's ports for three weeks and from which many long-established passenger shipping companies never recovered. Reflecting its revised role in the scheme of things, that great British institution, P&O-Orient Lines, simply became P&O. Several interesting passenger ships entered service, among them the beautiful Swedish Kungsholm and Italian Eugenio C. The Prench Renaissance was delivered that same year, as was the Soviet Taras Shevchenko and the German Regina Maris, while the Norwegians cheered the arrival of Black Prince and another ship called Sunward.
