Nomadic, the former White Star Line tender, will be moved from Barnett Dock to a permanent home in Belfast's Hamilton Graving Dock before the end of the year. It is planned that the 220ft steamship, undergoing restoration by the Nomadic Preservation Society, will be opened to the public next year as part of a major tourist attraction. The dock, in the Abercorn Basin behind the Odyssey entertainment complex, was once part of the Harland and Wolff shipyard but has not been used for more than 15 years. It is being brought back to life thanks to a £350,000 refurbishment project led by the Port of Belfast and Titanic Quarter. Nomadic was one of a pair of tenders built by Harland & Wolff at Belfast in 1911 to service liners during their calls at Cherbourg. She was designed to carry 1,000 first and second class passengers, but during Titanic's one and only call in Cherbourg, Nomadic took only 170 passengers out to the ship and brought just 24 ashore.
