Sanko Moves Into Offshore Sector

Japan's sanko line, long known for its bulk carriers and tankers, has decided to enter the offshore market by having four platform supply vessels (PSVs) built by the Japanese shipbuilding group Universal Shipbuilding Corporation (formerly NKK Corporation and Hitachi Zosen Corporation) for delivery between 2010 and 2012.rnThese ships, a first for the company, will be completed to a design furnished by STX Europe, the former Aker Yards. The 86.6m PSVs will have a deadweight of 4,800 tonnes and will make use of diesel-electrical propulsion. Another Japanese shipowner, K-Line, has also ordered four boats of the same PSV 06 CD design for offshore work.
