North Sea Rescue Drama

Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel (ERRV) Caledonian Victory has recently been involved in the rescue of 18 crew and offshore workers following a helicopter ditching in the North Sea. The incident occurred on the evening of 18 February as the men were being transported in a Super Puma to the BP ETAP Platform. The helicopter ditched, without warning, 125 nautical miles east of Aberdeen and only 500m from the Platform. The ditching was observed from the Platform and the in-field helicopter Rescue Bond 1 and the Caledonian Victory were quickly on the scene. Three men were winched onboard Rescue Bond 1 and the remaining 15 were taken onboard the ERRV.
