Old Harry Rocks are on the Purbeck coast of Dorset between Poole and Swanage and form part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Reached via a coastal footpath, the cliff tops offer uninterrupted views over Poole Bay and the towns of Poole and Bournemouth, and eastwards towards the Isle of Wight. The cliffs give superb foreground interest to shipping photographers, whie on a clear day the western tip of the Isle of Wight provides an interesting backdrop. From this vantage point larger ships may be observed transiting Poole Harbour until they are well into the English Channel. There are year-round daily conventional ferry movements from Poole, with the seasonal high-speed ferry services slowing down at this point for the approach to the harbour entrance.
