Built for speed at the rnheight of the shipping boom, the three-year-old 52,400dwt container ship Maersk Brooklyn, pictured below off Rothesay, is one of many vessels of her type now entering lay-up because of the recession. Completed in 2007 for Maersk, the 294m vessel can carry 4.174TEU and her 68,640kW Waertsilae-Sulzer diesel gives a speed of 29 knots, making her one of the fastest container ships in the world.
