Finland's Gaiamare Ltd has ordered a 105m by 19m multipurpose deck cargo vessel from STX Finland for delivery next year. The newbuilding will be capable of handling project cargo, such as offshore wind farm structures, but will also be suitable for transporting logs and lumber in the Baltic region. In addition, it will have a capability to operate as an oil spill response vessel through the incorporation of storage tanks with a capacity of 2,700m~3 of recovered oil. Propulsion will be provided by a diesel electric plant capable of using alternative bio-oils as fuel, while two electric rudder propellers and two bow thrusters will allow the ship to operate sideways.
