The lead ships of this year's main Royal Navy deployment sailed from the . UK in early April. Although the ships departed a few weeks earlier than scheduled, the MoD was keen to stress that their premature departure was not linked to the situation in Libya. The Cougar 11 Task Croup, led by the current Fleet Flagship HMS Albion, is the UK's Responsive Force Task Group (RFTC), a maritime contingent capability held at very high readiness to respond to unexpected global events, a concept announced in the Strategic Defence and Security Review.
