Most locals roll at the mere mention Eleusis (Elefsina), an industrial town some ten miles north of the bustling Greek port of Piraeus. Its air is choked with dust, roads perpetually snarled in traffic and turquoise waters stained by oil. Salamis Island and the hilly peninsula above the shipyards of adjacent Perama provide shelter for its horseshoe-shaped bay.
