Ugly cruise ships?

Your letter of the month Ugliest Ship Ever? (see SM, April) from Charles Brown is the most ignorant I have read in my more than two decades of receiving Ships Monthly. The survival of shipping lines depends on changing economic circumstances. We are now accustomed to freighters, their fine lines overwhelmed by containers, with only the bridge visible like a large periscope. Economics encourage cruise ships of increasing size. But passengers demand balconies and outside cabins, and so gone are the beautiful rows of portholes.
