Change of career for minesweeper Sidlesham

A former royal Navy Ham class minesweeper, which spent the past 30 years as a floating activity centre in Sussex, has sailed for a new life on the river Thames. HMS Sidlesham was built by P. K. Harris at Appledore in 1955 but, like many others in her class, was almost immediately placed in operational reserve. In 1964 she was sold to Sussex Police for use as their sailing club headquarters, having been renamed Gerald Daniel (as pictured), and towed to moorings at Cobnor in Chichester harbour.
