Coastal Isle grounds off Bute

Early in the morning of 2 July the container vessel Coastal Isle, while making her way from Belfast to Greenock Container Terminal on a regular voyage, ran aground near the Isle of Bute. The 258TEU vessel operates a regular service to Belfast from both Creenock and Liverpool. The ship was proceeding through the Great Cumbrae with a crew of ten at 0457 when, due to what was thought to be a navigational error, she struck rocks and sent out a distress call to the Clyde Coastguard.
