One country... two ships

On 17 February 1913 the new battlecruiser HMAS Australia eased out of the Clydebank shipyard of John Brown & Co Ltd to commence preliminary sea trials in the Firth of Clyde. She had been ordered nearly three years earlier, in April 1910, and her imminent completion heralded an important step in the creation of the new Royal Australian Navy, while providing an important boost to the British Empire's overall naval strength.
