TT's English connection

There was a 15-year TT-Line involvement in the British ferry scene as the company was owner of Sheerness-Vlissingcn route operator Olau Line from 1979 until the closure of the route in 2004. However, it is more intriguing to speculate what might have happened had an earlier TT attempt to gain an English Channel foothold been successful. With larger tonnage introduced on the Germany-Sweden routes, TT's ambitious management looked to deploy pioneer vessel Nib Holgersson, newly renamed Mary Poppins, on the Western Channel between Southampton and St Malo, where the decline of historic rail ferry links with French ports had already seen the arrival of Thoresen Car Ferries running from Southampton to Cherbourg and Le Havre.
