Despite dipping into the red due to a multi-million-pound back-dated tax bill, Western Ferries are pushing ahead with plans for new vessels to serve the Clyde passenger and vehicle service between Mclnroy's Point, Gourock and Hunter's Quay, Dunoon. Passenger numbers carried by the present four-strong fleet dropped 1.9 per cent during 2011, yet turnover increased two per cent to £6.2 million, only to be wiped out by a £5.1 million (7.4 per cent) increase in operating costs.
