A new life 'down under'

The Royal Australian Navy commissioned its latest warship at Fremantle on 13 December 2011. The Bay class landing ship was officially named HMAS Choules, after Australia's last surviving World War I veteran, Chief Petty Officer Claude Choules, who died last year aged 110. The former RFA Largs Bay is the first of a new generation of much-needed amphibious warfare ships that will help restore the navy's decrepit amphibious capability. She will be joined by two newbuild Canberra class helicopter landing ships in 2014 and 2015.
