Funchal almost returns

When the newly refurbished Funchal arrived in Gothenburg on the afternoon of 26 August for the start of a series of short cruises under charter to Sweden's Latitude Travel, she was subjected to a safety inspection by the Swedish authorities, which she failed on a number of grounds. According to local press reports, there were deficiencies in the fire-fighting equipment, watertight doors and crew training in some safety matters. Although the ship was not allowed to sail on her first cruise on 27 August, her passengers were initially embarked, in the hope that the repairs could be carried out quickly.
