Green Bay to come home

Plans are being drawn up to return the patrol gunboat Green Bay (PG-101) to the USA to become the centrepiece of the Neville Public Museum in her namesake city. Museum officials say they hope to acQuire the Ashevilie class gunboat, which was transferred to the Greek Navy in 1991 and renamed Tolmi, when she is retired from service. Green Bay, which was built by Peterson Builders at Sturgeon Bay in 1969 and measures 164ft 5in overall with a beam of 23ft 8in, was armed with one 76mm and one 40mm gun. She was originally powered by a General Electric gas turbine and twin Cummins diesels in a CODAC configuration giving her a top speed of 40 knots, but was later converted to all-diesel propulsion.
